Abstract

The global society is advancing to decarbonize for achieving the Paris Agreement while cities owes the most
responsibility to lead the movement. It requires us finding new innovative ways to generate and use resources
much more effectively. Nexus Thinking is such a concept that connects linkages and activates interactions of
sectors. This speech will introduce the concept of Nexus thinking first and then explain the design-led nexus
approach for urban food-energy-water management with examples in Japan for carbon zero buildings and
communities.
